An esthetician is a cosmetologist specializing in skin care therapies. Services rendered by an esthetician include facials, microdermabrasion, body wraps, salt glows, waxing for hair removal and cosmetic services. Estheticians work independently in spas or salons or assist dermatologists in their practice. There are advanced (post-graduate level and above) courses that enable the esthetician to perform more advanced treatments such as deep chemical peels under a doctor’s supervision, however, holistic estheticians rarely use deep peels. Estheticians are also trained to counsel their clients on skin and body care and the products involved.
